Setting paragraphs
Homework week 11 - Practising writing detailed paragraphs.
Your task is to write six paragraphs following correct paragraphs structures.
I would like a topic sentence - a strong, bold sentence stating exactly what your position is.
A supporting sentence - one sentence backing up the topic sentence with a little more detail.
Explanation - 4-5 sentences explaining and analysing your stance.
Example - 3-4 sentences giving either a quote from the text or a specific, detailed example (event).
Explanation - a sentence or two explaining the quote.
Concluding sentence - a sentence drawing final conclusions. This should leave the reader/marker satisfied that you have answered the question.
Each of the paragraphs will be on setting. You will have a 'cheat sheet' of quotes to help - please use them and any others that you can find from the text.
Question 1) What parallels can you draw between the barren landscape that the novel is set in and the characters within the text?
Question 2) Larry Watson creates the perfect backdrop for a plot that questions ethics and morals - explain.
Question 3) 'Montana 1948' is a story about the atrocities suffered by racial minorities in America; do you agree or disagree?
Question 4) Larry Watson uses symbolic settings to help us as the reader understand important themes in the novel.
Question 5) Larry Watson Uses the weather, wind, snow, rain and other environmental aspects to alert the reader to important ideas in the text.
Question 6) Larry Watson uses the basement scenes with Frank to make us, as the reader, understand the moral dilemma Wes is faced with in choosing between justice and family loyalty.
